Error: Setup Error 907. Object 140. Your Setup files...(due to long filenames).
Error:
Setup Error 907. Object 140. Your Setup files may be damaged. Try restarting the Setup program.
Cause:
The Microsoft Plus! Setup program detects that the computer cannot use long filenames. Because of this error, the Setup program installs Microsoft Plus! In the \proga~1\Plus! folder instead of in the PROGRAM FILES\PLUS! folder.
Solution:
To work around this problem, either reinstall Windows 95 or delete Win31FileSystem key from the registry.
1) Reinstall Windows 95:
WARNING: This procedure should be performed by a qualified computer technician or under the supervision of next-level support. Before making any modification to the Registry, be sure to make backup copies of the Registry files System.dat and User.dat. Using the Registry Editor and modifying the Registry incorrectly could cause serious problems that may require the reinstallation of Windows 95. For more information about the Registry Editor or the Registry, please refer to the online Help topics.
NOTE: For specific information about how to edit the registry, view the 'Changing Keys and Values' topic in the Registry Editor.
2) Using the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe), edit the registry to delete the Win31FileSystem key. It is in the folder:
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem (REGEDIT.EXE) Help menu.
